If you’re new around here, I’m Abby from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I always seem to be doing some sort of organizing or decorating project in the craftsman style home that we built a little over four years ago now.
One of our most recent projects was adding landscape lighting to the front of our house, just in time to highlight our holiday decorations!
Our house is a Palermo by Ryan Homes, so it started out very “cookie cutter.” But we’ve spent the past 4+ years putting our mark on every single room and really making it our own.
Now that we’ve officially met, I’d love for you to come on in and take the rest of the grand tour!
Classic Christmas Living Room
For the past few years I’ve put up the tree in our sunroom, but this year I decided to put it in our main living area. I wasn’t sure how it would look with our entertainment unit behind it, but I actually kind of like the decorated shelves peeking out! (And it doesn’t block the TV, which was Donnie’s main concern. 😉 )
Speaking of our entertainment unit, it is one of the pieces in our home that I get the most questions about! We made it with pieces from IKEA’s BESTA system and added our own trim work to make it look more custom. (You can get the details in this post.) I LOVE decorating the shelves for each season!.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve done traditional colors for our Christmas decor, but this year it felt like it was time to bring them back. There’s just something so nostalgic and comforting about them. And after the 2020 we’ve had, it seemed appropriate to evoke those feelings! 🙂
Last year was my first year using a flocked tree, and I love it! (We have this one.) I tend toward a “light and bright” aesthetic anyway, so I really like how the flocking gives a nice clean background for our ornaments and other tree decorations.
It may look like I’m on top of my game with gifts already wrapped, but confession time: those are empty boxes, lol. I wouldn’t want to give my two boys any clues as to what they’ll be receiving this year, so I use the fake presents until we put the real ones out after the boys go to bed on Christmas Eve.
I really like our tree during the day…
…but I love it even more at night! There’s just something about the twinkle lights that make it feel a little bit magical.
Our Christmas Tree at Night
I created a centerpiece for our coffee table inside a tray I picked up at Magnolia Market. I like it because when we want to use the coffee table to play a game or the boys are doing schoolwork, it’s easy to just pick up the entire thing and move it out of the way. No fuss!
Our living room is actually one big space with the sunroom (off to the left there) and the kitchen.
Simple Classic Christmas Kitchen
I didn’t go too crazy with Christmas decor in the kitchen this year, but I did put up a few little vignettes to make it look festive!
My favorite is this tiered tray. With candles, ornaments, some glassware, and a little bit of faux greenery, it easily becomes a Christmas-y centerpiece.
Christmas in the Dining Room
One final stop I wanted to make on our tour is our dining room! I didn’t do an all-out table setting since we won’t be hosting any extended family this year. But I did put up a little pencil tree and decked out the hutch for Christmas.
Whenever I add any red to this room, I feel like it automatically takes on a cottage-y vibe because of the aqua walls (painted Sherwin Williams Rainwashed). And I am totally okay with that!
This china cabinet was my grandmother’s, and it is one of my most treasured pieces of furniture on our home. I love to add seasonal touches to the shelves throughout the year. (That little red lantern on the bottom shelf was Donnie’s as a kid– another special piece to me!)
So that is our classic Christmas home tour this year! Thank you so much for coming to visit!
