Top 10 Best Organizing Items from IKEA
I’ve collected the top 10 best organizing items from IKEA– keep an eye out for these helpful organization tools the next time you’re there!
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of IKEA! They have so many practical and inexpensive items that are also beautiful and incredibly functional, so we incorporated a ton of them in our townhouse and now in our current house as well.
I especially love IKEA when it comes to organization. So many of their items are able to be tweaked and used in multiple ways to serve the exact purpose needed in our home, and that is a definite win in my book.
Though this list could probably be much longer, today I wanted to share my top 10 favorite organizing items from IKEA and show you some of the ways we’ve used each one in our homes. [This post is not sponsored by IKEA in any way– I just really love their stuff!]
Let’s take a peek!
Top 10 Best Organizing Items from IKEA
#10- SOCKERART Pitchers
We use these cute pitchers in our kitchen to organize our utensils, and I love them as an alternative to the traditional boring utensil holder!
They could also be used to organize art supplies like colored pencils or paint brushes, and I’ve also used them for decorative purposes on shelves or to hold flowers. Oh and of course they could be used as a pitcher to hold and pour liquids as well!
#9- GRUNDTAL Knife Rack
This was one of my most favorite “IKEA Hacks” in our last house– we used a GRUNDTAL knife rack to organize some of our boys’ die-cast trains!
In addition to being super functional, it made for such a cute little display on the wall, and our boys loved it because it was easy to grab the trains they wanted and put them back as well when they were done.
#8- KALLAX Shelving Unit
We love KALLAX (formerly EXPEDIT)! We’ve used KALLAX units in each of our houses to hold toys, and Donnie has used them in his office to store his books as well.
I’ve seen people use them as nightstands, storage benches, rolling carts, craft storage, room dividers, and so much more! I love that we can really make it our own with different types of cute bins and baskets as well.
#7- GRUNDTAL/FINTORP Rail System
These little kitchen rails are super nifty if you ask me. We are currently using a FINTORP rail at the end of our island to hold a little plant, some wooden spoons, and an extra dish towel…
And we used the GRUNDTAL rail + cups in the boys’ room in our townhouse to organize markers and crayons as part of their art station.
There are all sorts of cute baskets, pails, and attachments that fit onto the rails, and I’ve seen them used for everything from a charging station to a mail/key drop area to makeup organization.
#6- RASKOG Rolling Cart
Rolling carts are amazing for organization because they are small, flexible, and can be brought into just about any space to create extra storage. I’ve used my RASKOG cart for everything from kitchen storage to office storage, and I recently revamped it once again into a little craft cart for the boys’ playroom.
You can see a bunch more ways I’ve used the IKEA RASKOG cart to get organized here.
#5- GODMORGON Clear Organizing Containers
This is one of my more recent discoveries at IKEA, and I can’t believe it took me so long to find them! They have been a lifesaver in our master bathroom vanity already! Our drawers are deep but narrow, and I was having a hard time finding something that would keep all of my bottles and tubes upright (they would fall over every time I closed the drawer–UGH!) while still fitting neatly in the drawer.
The GODMORGON organizers ended up working perfectly, and now no matter how hard my drawer slams shut, everything stays in place. Win! (You can also see some of the GODMORGON organizers at work on my RASKOG art cart under #6!)
#4- SKUBB Boxes
You may remember these from my clothes organization post/video! The SKUBB boxes come in several shapes and sizes and are perfect for corralling items within a drawer to keep everything neat and tidy. I use them inside my sock drawer…
And also in Donnie’s t-shirt drawer to keep his shirts from becoming an unruly mess!
You could also use these boxes as dividers in kitchen cabinets or drawers and for toy storage as well.
#3- BESTA Storage System
I love BESTA! I searched high and low for the perfect entertainment unit for our new living room and had almost resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to pay to have expensive built-ins made when we discovered BESTA instead.
It is a modular system, so you can pick and choose the pieces that fit your exact space, and it is fairly inexpensive and easy to install. You can read more about our BESTA installation process in this post.
BESTA could also be used to create storage in a craft room or office or to add some storage space in a mudroom as well!
#2- IKEA 365+ Food Storage Containers
In each of our houses, I really have needed to make the most of every inch of our pantry space, and I love that these storage containers help me do just that! They’re tall and narrow, so they can hold a lot without taking up too much room.
We use them to hold dry goods like pasta and rice as well as baking items like flour and sugar. I also added cute labels to all of them so we can easily tell what’s in each one.
#1- ALGOT Closet System
My #1 most favorite organizing item from IKEA hands down is the ALGOT closet system! We have used it in SIX (!!!) different closets between our two houses, and it has made each one super functional and beautiful.
[FYI… IKEA recently discontinued their ALGOT system and replaced it with BOAXEL, which is very similar.]
I love that it is clean, white, and bright, and can be easily adapted to meet our needs in each and every space where we’ve used it! I don’t even feel like we have scratched the surface of all that ALGOT would be capable of doing, but it has certainly worked really well for us!
[Note: In true IKEA fashion, when you go into the store each bracket, rail, etc. of the ALGOT system is sold individually, not in a pre-assembled bundle like they show online. If you need help measuring and choosing the correct ALGOT pieces for your space, I talked about how we do that in this post.]
You can click on each space below to learn more about how we used ALGOT in each one.

So those are the top 10 IKEA items that help us stay organized!
I know there are way more organization items at IKEA that didn’t make my list, so be sure to tell me in the comments what your favorites are and which ones I need to try next!

There are always great reasons to go to Ikea, am I right? 🙂 Glad it was helpful for you, Linda! Have a great day!

Thanks for sharing so many great organization ideas and photos. I am such a visual person! Using the knife rack for the trains is genius and does look so cute on the wall. I am going to have to check out the Skogg boxes for organizing drawers. I’ve started folding clothes so they can be filed and it is really working out very well.
So glad it was helpful, Jolene! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!
~Abby =)
Oh I wish IKEA were closer than two hours away! I love all these and will definitely have to get the closet system for our pantry. The wire shelves we have now just don’t cut it! I love all these ideas and your gorgeous home!
Thank you so much for your sweet words, Danielle! I hear ya– our IKEA is only about 35 minutes away, and I still wish it was closer!! Lol! Have a great week!
~Abby =)
This was a very timely post as we are getting a new IKEA here in 9 days. Can’t wait!
Oh so fun!! Enjoy the new store, Shirley!!
~Abby =)
I am so inspired by your post! I was literally on the IKEA website looking for stor options right before I opened this post. I’m organizing various spaces around our house as our nest is almost empty and I’m finally able to create a space that’s functional & pretty for hubby & me. I guess I’m on if the lucky ones as our nearest IKEA is 20 minutes away..Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad it was helpful for you, Marlo! Enjoy your trip trip to IKEA! 🙂

I love the idea of using the SOCKERART PITCHERS as utensil holders. I have one of those, but I never thought of using it this way. I also love the magnetic knife rack to organize the little cars. We have tons of those at home and they make a mess. I will look into it. PS. We have the same IKEA road rug for the boys to play! 🙂
So glad it gave you some new idea, Isabel! Gotta love IKEA! 🙂 Happy Friday!
~Abby =)
I have never been to an Ikea store because we do not have one close by. But, I have ordered online.
I love these ideas and how you have used these products! I am SLOWLY organizing our home and I find your blog so helpful!
Thanks Abby!
Aw, thank you so much, Courtney! I’m so glad it has been helpful for you! Happy Friday! <3

I saw the Besta post a while back and meant to comment then. What a great job and beautiful result! Your husband did amazing work on the moldings and trim. Your design is so workable! Plus, I love Ikea too. We used their cabinets in our old townhouse and current home and absolutely love their functionality. Thanks for sharing all your ideas.
Melissa
Aw, thanks so much, Melissa! He did do a great job! It really made such a huge difference. Hope you have a wonderful week! <3

I LOVE IKEA! It’s my fave place to shop. We get the randomest things there. Straws (cheaper than the dollar store), napkins, rolling cart, stuffed animals, new pots.. and most of all storage bins. I have so many of their storage bins all over my house that when we actually get to the store (it’s an hour away!), my husband goes into the bin section and says “You have them all. Let’s just bypass this section.” I always have to peek and see what’s new.
Best part of IKEA is the restaurant. Best. Food. Ever.
Lol! Your husband sounds like mine! SOO many things to love about IKEA! My favorite, too! 🙂 Have a great day, Tina!

Why, oh why, did I not buy the Raskog cart when it came in turquoise?? I’m so sorry I didn’t! 🙁
Isn’t it such a bummer when you miss out on those kind of things?!? That always happens to me, too! Hopefully they’ll bring it back at some point! <3

I actually painted one of the cream ones i bought with craft paint. Spray paint would be even easier.
I love a lot of these ones too. Another one I get tons of use out of is the pot racks. Having our pots and pans on the wall clears up so much cupboard space! Do you have any suggestions for ways to organize necklaces in drawers? Thanks!
Hi, Kayleigh! My first thought with the necklaces would be to use the same sort of organizer you would use in a silverware drawer that has the long, narrow slots. They also make a ton of different types of drawer inserts that are specifically meant for jewelry. I’m sure an Amazon search would bring up a ton!

The tray that the pitchers are sitting on, is that also IKEA? I need both ! Thanks!
Hi, Laurie! The hexagon tray was from Target. I got it years ago, but they bring things back from time to time, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for it! 🙂
Love it!! Such a great ideas and what a lovely home! Could you share your secret about the labels for your pantry? 🙂 they are amazing!
Hi, Zahara! I use my Silhouette Cameo to do those labels. I talk more about them in this post: https://justagirlandherblog.com/beautifully-organized-pantry/. Thanks so much and have a wonderful day!
~Abby =)
Definitely need the closet organizing system. Wire shelving was put in as we were finishing our build but I hate it…too close to the floor to hang much and not enough space between them to hang much.
Question: Do you have some type of organizing degree or has this just always been your passion? I loved to be organized and would love to have a side job that could become a retirement job in about 15 years, but my skill doesn’t necessarily match my passion. 🙂
Hi, Karen! No organizing degree. I was actually an English education major. I am just extremely type A and love organizing! 🙂 haha!
~Abby =)

Where did you get the cute tray for the pitchers?
I love your organizing ideas.
Thanks,
Rose
Thanks so much, Rose! The tray was from Target a few years ago, but every once in a while they’ll bring it back! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week!

Hi Abby,
Another great item from IKEA is their KUGGIS storage boxes.
White, come in different sizes, lidded, stackable, great for so many things!
I have 10 and use them in my office for Planning supplies and stickers.
Ooo, I’ll have to check them out! Thanks, Donna!
