Do you mean the base cabinets? I would say for safety purposes, you’d definitely want to at least anchor them to the wall because they could hurt someone if they would fall over. They are definitely made to be installed as built-ins. I know that’s not very helpful in a renting situation– so sorry!

We don’t live in the house with the IKEA kitchen anymore, so I can’t test it, but I remember it being pretty sturdy. In fact, I remember that after we moved into our current house I felt like my current lazy Susan felt flimsy compared to the stronger IKEA one. I hope you enjoy your new kitchen!

Would you say the SEKTION cabinets are safe to have as stand alone cabinets not built in? I’m renting and considering using as a stand alone cabinet/faux wall to create room division and Im worried these are specifically mean to be built in cabinets fastened to the wall.

I am concerned about whether the corner carousel will take much weight, there’s nothing on the website that mentions a weight limit. My Mom had a similar unit, admittedly in the 1980s and not Ikea, but it could only take light loads.

I’ve spent some time wondering about Ikea’s cabinet quality for when we need to replace/ remodel our kitchen. The European style cabinets are such a better design than the old fashioned face-frame type. So nice not to catch your hand on a lip of wood that’s sticking out behind the doors and limiting usage on the inside! And the hinges are so much more adjustable!

[ Hint. Some people think they’re ordering “custom cabinets” and pay more — but what they are getting is an old cabinet shop which has not kept up with the modern designs. Learn about “face frame” vs. “Euro” construction! Seriously. ]
