Our Summer Front Porch Decor
Eeek! I have butterflies in my stomach today… for a few reasons, actually! First, as you read this, I am headed to Atlanta, Georgia for the Haven Blogging Conference, and I can’t wait to meet up with some longtime blog friends and meet some new ones! Haven is always one of the highlights of my year, and I’m sure this year will be no exception! (I’ll be sharing some snippets of my time on my Instagram stories, so you can head over there to follow along! And if you’ll be at Haven, be sure to find me and say hi!!)
I am also so excited to share our summer front porch with you! I get so giddy every time I get to share an outdoor space because for years we lived in a townhouse that barely had a stoop, let alone a front porch. Decorating our porch has definitely been a learning experience (which is why I didn’t get a porch post out until the summer is halfway over…oops), but it has been fun to get to try some new things and experiment a bit.
Let’s take a peek!

We moved into our house last September, so we’ve been here a little less than a year at this point. Our house is the Palermo model by Ryan Homes, and we immediately fell in love with the craftsman style elevation and knew we wanted to use it for our house.
I love gray, so the gray color scheme was perfect for us, but when it came to decorating the porch, I also knew that I wanted to create some contrast, break up all of the gray a little bit, and bring out some of the more brown tones that we have interspersed in our stonework as well.
I had used some wicker chairs for our Christmas porch decor, but when I took them inside to shield them from the snow, I put the in the living room and absolutely loved them there. So when the weather started to warm up, I had to find some new chairs to use out on the porch. (It’s like musical chairs around here… literally! ?)
I stumbled upon these beauties on clearance at Pier 1 and immediately knew that they were “the ones.” I loved the wood tones and the design, and I knew they would be just the thing to make a statement on our porch and help to break up the gray as well.
Our porch is not huge, so I simply added a little garden stool between the chairs to act as a side table and grounded the grouping with this cute rug I found on Amazon.
I lucked out once again when I found planters on clearance at Target that worked nicely with the tones in the chairs… and then it was time to add plants. Eek.
Have I mentioned that I have a black thumb? And also that I know next to nothing about plants? It’s true.
I was so thankful for the sweet lady working at the little farm where I went to pick out plants for my planters. She was so patient with me, helped me find just what I needed (We went with waterhyssop, angelonia, and calibrachoa, if you’re wondering!), and told me how to take care of everything. They are still looking pretty green, but soon there should be pink and purple flowers spilling out of the planters! (As long as I can keep them alive, that is… 😉 )
I added a few succulents and additional potted plants, and our porch was looking ready for summer!
I have actually had the plants for a few weeks now, and everything is (surprisingly) still alive, so maybe I will be able to shed my black thumb after all! Fingers crossed!
If you have any planting tips or tricks, be sure to leave them for me in the comments! I can use all the help I can get! 😉

Hey Abby, are you an interior decorator? You take nice pictures and your decorating skills gets better daily.
I saved the pictures and will be referencing them soon..
Your home is beautiful and has stunning curb appeal. I especially like the Smith and Hawken wooden planter. I’ve been looking for one like that to plant a Meyer Lemon tree!
Aw, you’re the sweetest! Thanks so much, Caitlyn! I am loving the planters, too! Hope you’re having a wonderful week! <3

There is so much charm on this front porch! The chairs are my favorite element. They give a different feel than an Adirondack chair, and are a bit more versatile. Gardening/planting tip – chrysanthemums (aka mums) are my brown thumb secret weapon for fall! They withstand all kinds of neglect (Guilty right here…), and come in a huge array of colors. Love the pink and purple flowers for summer!
Thanks so much for the planting tips, Amy! I need all the help I can get! LOL! Hope you’re having a great week! <3
