Friends, it is a momentous day here at Just a Girl and Her Blog! For the first time in nearly four years of blogging, I get to post about outdoor decor… and I’m more than a little excited about it!!!
You see, our townhouse was tucked back away from the road, and no one ever saw the front of it– not even us because we always entered through the garage! So beyond a wreath on the door, I never bothered decorating the front of the house.
But then this summer we moved into Orchard House and finally… FINALLY I had an outdoor space to decorate, and today you get to see it decked out for Christmas!
Simple Christmas Porch Decor
Since I am a novice outdoor decorator, I decided to keep it simple and classic this year, and I’m loving the result.
I knew I wanted to frame our door in greenery, so I snagged two pinecone & berry outdoor garlands from Pier 1. I loved that they came with LED lights already integrated into the design– I just had to hang them up, and they were ready to go!
When they arrived, I was giddy over how beautiful they were… and then I realized I had no idea how to hang them because I was such an outdoor decor newbie! ? So I called my mother-in-law who always has the most gorgeous Christmas porch, and she recommended screwing little hooks into the door frame and then using thick floral wire to tie the garland to the hooks. It worked like a charm, and the green floral wire stays nicely hidden within the garland!
Pier 1 also had matching mini trees to go with the garland, so I grabbed two of those as well! Technically they are pathway trees that stick in the ground… I had originally planned to use them on either side of the steps. When I decided to use them by the door instead, I just took two planter pots that I had picked up at the home improvement store, filled them with dirt to add some weight and give the trees something to ground them, and placed the trees inside. So easy!
Our porch is not huge, but we had room for a small seating area in front of the window…
I had been eyeing Pier 1’s Coco Cove armchairs (in Honey) for a while, so this was the perfect excuse to snatch them up! I paired them with these cozy outdoor cushions in Draper Bisque, and they created the best little spot to snuggle up with a blanket and some hot chocolate!
I placed little round table I already had between the chairs, poured some pinecone and birch bowl filler into a festive red bowl, and my simple Christmas porch was complete!
I love that it has a festive holiday feel without being too fussy or overdone.
And though I really like how the porch looks during the day, I think it is even more enchanting at night with the lit garland and mini trees!
I now smile every time I pull up to the house and see our Christmas porch!
We are so thrilled to have a welcoming entrance for guests to pass through as we host various holiday events in our home and are super excited to spend our first holiday season in the new house!

It’s beautiful! How do you hid the electrical cord?
Thank you! The cord for the garland is hidden behind the mini tree on the left! 😉 And the trees are battery operated, so no cords. Hope you have a great week, Maury!

Wow, you did a great job hiding it. I did mean to say “hide” not hid. May the Lord bless your new home!
I love the simple elegance of your front porch! And I’m curious – do you call your home Orchard House after the March family home in Little Women?! Have a great Tuesday!
Thank you, Aimee!! I do love Little Women, but that wasn’t the reason! We actually have a peach orchard in our back yard and can see an apple orchard in our back view as well, so it just seemed fitting! Hope you have a great week!
~Abby =)
Wow! Very nice. Love the simplicity.
Thank you so much, Barbara! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

I love it! I often think that I am supposed to have elaborate outdoor decor and this looks so lovely that I feel like I can achieve something similar without a lot of stress. Thank you for this post!
That was the goal! There is enough stress going on this time of year that I didn’t want to add to it– simple is beautiful too! 🙂 Have a great week, Christy!

Beautiful porch! I love those chairs and the garland around the door. So festive.

Thank you so much, friend! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

Love the look of your front porch! It’s beautiful! I wanted to let you know that you can also use the heavy duty command hooks to hang decorations outside. I use them year-round for things I have hanging on my front porch and they work great! Bonus is that there are no nail holes!
Ooh great tip! Thanks so much, Melanie! Have a wonderful week!

I love your classic Christmas decor on your porch. Beautiful! There is so much at Pier 1 I am obsessing over. My husband and my boys take care of the front of our house. You won’t see me photographing it for the blog (maybe a quick IG story). They LOVE putting up Christmas lights together and their motto is “the more the better”. Think Chevy Chase extreme. Our home competes with the lighthouse on the island. I keep the inside classy though. I guess I have a mullet house…”business on the inside, party on the outside”.

LOL! I love that! How fun that they take on that project together! Everyone has their own space to decorate! 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful week, Nancy!

Looks so inviting, Abby! I was just in Pier 1 this weekend and was so enamoured with all the Holiday decor. I bought my outdoor furniture there several years ago and it still looks brand new! Merry Christmas, Abby!
Thank you, Diane! Glad you are still loving your Pier 1 outdoor furniture too! Merry Christmas to you and Dean as well!

Beautiful, Abby! And HOW SMART is your MIL! Totally going to do that with my outdoor garland this year. I have a couple browsers open to check out some of these links. We have a Pier 1 down the street. 🙂 PS: Those shutters are fabulous!
Thank you, Erica! You are so sweet! And yes, my MIL is a smart one– I knew she’d have the answer! 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

It’s been so looking since I’ve stopped in at Pier 1… Maybe that needs to change! Looks beautiful!
Thank you so much, Sarah! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

We live in an apartment, so i know that feeling of no one admiring your porch or entrance. Our next door neighbors are the only ones that admire our wreath! Your porch looks lovely. Sometimes less is more and those lights at night make that porch magical!
Thank you, Zografia! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!
~Abby =)
Looks great!
Congrats on the new house, too.
Thanks so much, Michael! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

Your porch is beautiful and I love the simplicity of it! Less is more, right? 🙂
My thoughts exactly! 😉 Hope you’re having a wonderful week, Heather!
~Abby =)
Beautiful! Even better when it’s simple! If you wanted to add one more pop of color you could put some gold ribbon around the planter pots but it looks fantastic as it is:] I hope you get some time to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and having a porch to decorate through the season… great place to relax!
Thank you so much for your sweet words, Misty! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!
~Abby =)
I love it. Very nicely done. I don’t do much decorating on the outside beyond a wreath on our front door but I’ve been wanting to try a few new ideas. We’ll see how much I get done this year since I’m just now starting to decorate the inside of the house.
Thanks so much, Elisabeth! Happy decorating! 🙂

Looks beautiful Abby!! I love that the trees are battery operated. I might have to go buy some! We’re doing our porch this weekend, so thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much, Valerie! Have so much fun decorating your porch! Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

Hi Abby – I love how real the greens look! I remember back in the day, the fake greens always looked so… fake but these are just stunning and will last you for many years in your new home. Can’t wait to see your other Christmas decorations! Hugs, Holly
Aw, thank you so much, friend! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

Gorgeous and festive porch! I love all of the greenery.

I also have a small front porch & love this look. Hope I can do mine justice. I’m NOT a decorator by any means but I’m willing to try. Keep up the good work. You are a very talented young lady. I volunteer with your grandfather at Habitat. Have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderfully Happy New Year.
Thank you so much for your sweet note, Judy! I’m sure your porch will look lovely! And how fun that you work with Grandad! Give him hugs from me next time you see him! 🙂 Have a wonderful week!

How cozy! I’m hoping to get a house next year – this makes me so excited to decorate already! I really love the garland over the door! Plus lights?! Amazing!
Thank you so much, Rachel! You are so sweet! Have a great week!
